While driving the California coast, I pulled over to photograph the Bixby Bridge just as immense fog rolled in, obscuring the far side and swallowing the landscape beyond. The structure appeared suspended in space, its roadway vanishing into white—a road to nowhere, or everywhere. In black and white, the image becomes more about sensation than place: the vastness, the stillness, the illusion of infinity.
